What is the C/2022 E3 (ZTF) Comet?

The C/2022 E3 (ZTF) comet is a newly discovered comet that is part of the short-period Jupiter family. It was first observed in March of 2021 by the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) survey in the Palomar Observatory in California. It is an icy body with a diameter of approximately 6 kilometers, and composed of ice and dust. The C/2022 E3 (ZTF) comet travels in a near-circular orbit around the Sun, taking approximately 6.5 years to make one full circuit. It is expected to reach perihelion, the closest point to the Earth in its orbit, in Febuary 2023, and will then retreat further away from the Sun. This orbit is fairly typical for a comet like this one, but as it approaches the Sun, the given comet can put on quite a show.

For example, astronomers have estimated that the comet will be visible over the Northern hemisphere. With an estimate magnitude of 4.5, it should be easily visible in dark skies.
